I have seen this many times and in all cases only a reinstall has cured it. Even perfectly good PCs have fallen for no obvious reason. I have also tried the recovery console and rebuilding the hive files, but its all a waste of time. Can you take out the battery on your motherboard or do you have a switch that you can turn it off?
